When it comes to launching a new business venture, the business plan must be solid. Businesses must be able to implement their plans and sustain their business model. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the potential for the success of a business venture. Businesses must be able to attract enough qualified-workers to run their businesses efficiently. They must also ensure access to suppliers that can provide the raw goods they need at a cost-effective price. The community in which the business operates must have the infrastructure needed to support the operations of the business. Even when all of these and other criteria are met, business leaders must also have the capital needed to build or expand their businesses. The establishment of 8,700 so-called “opportunity zones” by the Trump Administration seeks to steer that necessary capital into struggling communities in order to foster opportunity creation, but the devil is in the details as the saying goes.

Opioid addiction is an important social issue that continues to impact more and more people. Not only has Melania Trump taken up the cause as part of her duties as First Lady, there is a growing desire across the political spectrum and across the United States to tackle opioid addiction. The Trump Administration’s effort to confront the opioid crisis is one of the few initiatives of the US President that everyone can support. Although more must be done to prevent opioid addiction by finding less addictive alternatives to treatment options that rely on painkillers and more must be done to treat victims of opioid addiction, Congress has managed to pass legislation that will help better control who gains access to opioids. While hospital visits by the First Lady grabs headlines and the use of an opioid overdose to kill off the Roseanne character in the rebooted Roseanne series demonstrates the concerns of television executives and writers, the viral obituary of a mother who died of opioid addiction shows the empathy Americans feel toward victims of opioid addiction, which is an important step forward.
Stock Volatility May Be Returning: How Will Trump And A Culturally Traumatized America React10/15/2018 Wall Street is set to dominate the news in the final months of 2018. It is, unfortunately, due to some very negative news. After a 5.2% drop in the S&P500 over the course of two days in the second week of October that continued into the following week, it appears investors are losing confidence in technology companies. Whether a long expected correction as characterized by President Donald Trump, a return to volatility and recession, or a temporary blip, the news is unnerving. The Great Recession of 2008-2009 and the lengthy recovery was, after all, largely defined by a highly volatile stock market that routinely experienced massive swings over the course of hours and days. With the potential for destabilizing volatility returning, fears of a recession will be on the rise, which may well be a greater risk to the economy than falling stocks.
Saudi Arabia Tortured and Assassinated A WP Journalist: Routine Oppression Or Unacceptable Atrocity?10/12/2018 In 1982, Iraq under the rule of Saddam Hussein desperately needed to end the Iran-Iraq War. He turned to his advisers and asked for candid advice. Dr. Riyadh Ibrahim, his loyal Minister of Health, suggested the leader temporarily step down from power in order to make it easier for the Iranian government to accept peace. Soon afterwards, dismembered pieces of Ibrahim’s tortured body were returned to his wife. It was one of many monstrous acts that would force Western governments to abandon their ally against the Islamic state of Iran. The barbaric nature of Saddam Hussein was too much for Westerners to bear. In 2001, Westerners were horrified when Libyan citizens discovered deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi then beat and shot him on video, which made it very difficult for US leaders to work with Libya’s new government. Islamic State video of Jame Foley’s beheading in 2014 helped rally International support against the terrorist group. The alleged murder of Jamal Khashoggi by agents of the Saudi government adds to the growing list of barbaric acts committed by Middle Eastern governments that have elicited Western outrage.
The 2018 Mid-Term Elections: Another “No Issues” Election Designed To Empower Special Interests10/10/2018 The US 2018 US Mid-Term Elections is shaping up to largely be another “no issues” electoral contest. Considering mid-term elections lack the central figures and their fight for the Presidency, most mid-terms do not have a unifying theme. Democrats and the almost forgotten Never-Trumpers on the Right, of course, hope to make Donald Trump, his Administration, and his cronies the central issue of the 2018 mid-terms, but Donald Trump is not an issue. Donald Trump is an elected political figure and the entrenched political option. Given Trump’s consistently low approval ratings and controversial ways, Democrats may well achieve victory over Donald Trump’s Republicans. Just the fact that Donald Trump is a Republican and a candidate is running as a Republican may well be enough to ensure that candidate’s defeat. It is an unfortunate reality, because the Democratic choices are not necessary better options than the Republicans choices and vice versa.
